Having a blog is super important in your overall digital marketing strategy. And owning that blog — the URL, the design and content — is also important.
You don’t want to have a free blog hosted on a site like Blogger or Medium, and then all of sudden lose all your content, and traffic you’ve generated, if that platform suddenly shuts down.
It’s been known to happen — apps and platforms come and go. And, in the case of Blogger, one artist had his blog shut down without explanation by Google. He never externally backed up the majority of his content, so he lost it all.
Keeping these warnings in mind, one of the best reasons to own your blog or Website is that you can pretty much do anything you want with it. Design it just to your liking, and publish whatever you like without restrictions set by a platform that hosts your content.
One of the best tools to build your site or blog is WordPress. WordPress is a free, open source software that you can use to build a blog or a full-blown Website. Download the software for free here.

In addition to the free software, there are many free WordPress themes you can use to customize the design of your site. There are also themes you can buy, such as StudioPress themes. I use their themes for almost all the sites I build. StudioPress themes are well designed, easy to use, and the developers offer great support.
