We are embarking on a new year full of possibilities, challenges and rewards. For this upcoming year, how do we manage our digital marketing with all the changes on social media? How do we deal with the information overload on the Internet?
While there may be changes with the platforms we use, and new marketing channels will crop up, the basics remain constant: On social media you must connect with your fans on a level that resonates, and continue producing high quality, useful content that will engage and inform your audience.
Changes on social media platforms, such as Facebook’s new business page layout and its new publishing tools, will require some finessing, but you are still dealing with a social world online. In the end, you’ve got to connect with your audience on a meaningful level.
And while there may be too much information bombarding Web users, much of it is useless chatter. The more quality content you produce, the more likely it will rise above the noise.
To be sure, video is more important than ever, as it is a medium that connects instantly and widely with the short-attention span of today’s audience. You should definitely add video to your digital marketing strategy.

There are plenty of apps for desktop and mobile devices that any novice can use to make high quality videos for your blog posts and social media shares. In the list of blog links below, one is a post that covers some wonderful video and image creation apps.
Overall, the best advice I can offer for the New Year: Continue creating, publishing, and posting, but not mindlessly. Create a strategy, set a social media and editorial calendar, publish regularly, connect with your fans and followers, and make adjustments when needed.

With that said, I’ve rounded up a series of blog posts I’ve written in the past that will serve as a guide to setting up and implementing your digital marketing strategy for the new year. While you may have already have a digital marketing strategy in place, you might find a few nuggets to help you fine tune it. If you don’t have a strategy in place, don’t fret, it’s never too late to dive in now, and set one into motion.
