To help prioritize stories, and make sure you don’t miss posts from particular friends and Pages, you can now select which friends and Pages you would like to see at the top of your News Feed.
Facebook’s news feed preference tools appeared for iOS users the beginning of July, and has been rolling out for Android users the past month. However, not many people know about the customization options, or taken advantage of them.
You can now choose what business pages and people’s feeds you’d like to see at the top of your news feed before all the other chatter.
A couple of drawbacks to the new preferences tool is you are limited to 30 favorites, and you have to scroll through all the pages you’ve ever liked and all the people you’ve friended to pick and choose. It can take some time, and patience.
However, if there are pages and people that truly interest you — that’s why you liked or friended them in the first place, right? — it’s worth the effort.
Scrolling through my list of pages and friends, I realized I haven’t seen posts from some great Facebook business pages in ages. That’s because of Facebook’s restriction on organic reach from pages — in other words, if page owners don’t pay to advertise their content, fans won’t see it — and also with the social media network’s edge rank algorithm that shows newsfeed results from those you interact with most.
The good news is this new preference tool from Facebook could revive some pages as people adjust their settings, and like me, realize, “Hey, I want to see more from some of these pages!”
So if you’ve got a Facebook business page, it’s a good idea to reach out to your existing fan base and let them know about the new preference settings.
Other new options under News Feed Preferences are to take a look at suggested pages, and to easily unfollow or reconnect with people.
To get to News Feed Preferences, tap More in the bottom right hand corner of your mobile app. News Feed Preferences are located under Settings. You can come back at any time to update your choices.
