We know blogging, or content marketing, is a must in order to create an effective Web presence for any business. But not everyone is a writer, or comfortable trying to become one. Or some people simply don’t like to write.
If the latter description fits you, don’t worry: content marketing doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve got to sit down and get your advice, ideas and information across to your audience by typing words into a computer.
Content can be created in a variety of ways and forms. If you’re of the artistic bent, and prefer to communicate your thoughts visually, infographics, illustrations, photos and videos are fantastic types of content to publish to a blog. Here’s a quick list of different types of content you can create for your blog:
- Videos
- Podcasts
- Slide shows
- Infographics
- Charts
- Illustrations
- Photos
And you don’t need expensive equipment, or high-tech know how to do any of the above. Following are some tips on how to easily create some of these visual types of content.

Photos & Video
Most smartphones have good enough cameras with which you can capture an image or videos of behind-the-scenes action at your company, or celebrate a coworkers birthday or other special event to share with your followers. You can also take images of new products, and post a slideshow or collage. Schedule these posts once or twice per month, with a caption, and share it from there with your social media networks.
Twitter’s native video capture and sharing tool enables you to take video and share it with your followers Instantly. Share product updates or company news. Embed the video tweet into a blog post, and share with your other social media networks.
Use Adobe Voice to create narrated videos in minutes. Choose images from their library or upload your own, add some text, and press record to tell your story. Voila! You have a movie you can upload to YouTube, and use the code to embed into a blog post.
Slide Shows
Use an app like the free Haiku Deck, to create slide shows. Use the embed code to post to your blog. If you use the app through Slideshare you can use their embed code. I recommend opening an account with Haiku Deck as they have more layout and creative options than with Slideshare.
If you prefer PowerPoint or Keynote, create your slideshow and upload to Slideshare to get an embed code. What’s great about using Slideshare is it will automatically create a text transcript of your slides’ headlines and captions. Copy and paste the transcript into your blog after your embedded slide show for maximum SEO.
Infographics
Apps such as Canva enable you to easily make all sorts of images including charts and infographics. You just need to brainstorm and research a bit about the information you want to convey, choose a predetermined layout in Canva, and plug in the information and add images or icons.
In Summary
There are plenty of ways to express your ideas and publish them to your blog, without writing a thousand-word blog post. People can be thoroughly engaged by images, videos and illustrations. And your creative expression will engage and grow your fan base.
